common questions and answers

 are implants?
With proper care and routine maintenance, implants can last a lifetime.  r

  • How much do dental implants cost?
$1,000  to $3,000 is the standard cost for just one dental implant. When you add the abutment and crown, those could add an additional cost of anywhere from $600 to $3,000.

  • Are dental implants covered by insurance?
Many  insurance plans do cover at least some of the cost of the dental  implant, as well as the abutment and implant crown. There are also out-of-pocket costs associated with implants, depending on the percentage your insurance company will pay.

  • How long do dental implants last?
With  proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, but routine dental  cleanings and evaluation of the implant crown are important. The crown may need tightening over time.

  • How are dental implants done?
During surgery to place the dental implant, your dental surgeon makes a cut to  open your gum and expose the bone. A space is made in the bone where the dental implant metal post will be placed. Since the post will serve as the tooth root, it’s implanted deep into the bone.

  • Are dental implants as strong as real teeth?
When natural teeth can be fixed, they should be. A healthy and strong natural tooth is better than a dental implant. With that being said, sometimes dental implants are the better choice, especially if significant decay is involved.

  • Do tooth implants hurt?
The dental implant procedure doesn’t hurt and any discomfort is minimal.

  • Can dental implants be rejected by the body

Some people are very sensitive to foreign objects or have undiagnosed allergies

that can cause the body to reject the implant  before the bone completely heals.

Dental implants can also get rejected as a result of a traumatic bite due to the

               teeth not being properly aligned.

  • How many teeth can one implant support?
Depending on the placement of the implants and the volume of bone density in your jaw, as few as two implants can be used to support a four-tooth bridge.  For implant-supported full arch dentures, as many as eight and as little as two implants may be used.

  • What is the failure rate of dental implants? Dental implants have a success rate of about 98 percent.  Unfortunately some implants still fail, mostly due to poor quality of bone.

  • How reliable are implants? With proper care and routine maintenance, implants can last a lifetime.

  • Are you awake for dental implants? Yes. The procedure is performed with local anesthesia, sometimes coupled with sedatives to help you relax if you have anxiety.
